It's a baby quilt, and I'm vaguely wondering whether there are other people out there who, like me, have an irrational aversion to babies in pastels and like to see them in nice bright colours.
I was so worried about all
those brights together (particularly as I'm not exactly experienced in colour
theory - in fact, doing this quilt has inspired me to order a colour
wheel), but now that the top is finished I'm feeling the love. Luckily for
me, I rarely fail to love something I've made once I've made it - I'm my own
biggest fan (ahem).
The
embroidered flowers are cut from a vintage linen tablecloth - it was too
stained to use, so I saved the clean bits of embroidery, and raided my stash
for colours that were included in the stitching. There's a few vintage fabrics
in there - the red floral (one of my favourites, which I am gradually cutting
into more and more), the big white floral, the blue solid and the yellow
floral. The rest (I think - I forget where I get some of this stuff from!) are
new, but I'm pretty pleased with the eco-credentials of this quilt - the back
is going to be pieced from some leftover strips from the front and a salvaged
white cotton sheet, so the batting will be the only entirely new segment of the
quilt.
